The Question:
The above picture shows two people walking toward a pair of oncoming bicyclists. The pedestrian notices that as one cyclist passes the other they gives no audible warning that they are doing so. Are bicyclists required to give an audible warning when passing other bicyclists on sidewalks?
The Answer: YES
When lawfully operating a bicycle upon a sidewalk an audible warning must be given when overtaking and passing a pedestrian or another bicyclist. Operating a bicycle on the sidewalk is far more dangerous than on the street. Neither motorists or pedestrians are expecting bicyclists here. As a bicyclists, you are safest when traveling where other road users expect you to be.
