The Question:

The above picture shows a driver traveling in a residential zone and passing a bicyclist on the right. What is the distance you are to keep between your vehicle and that of the bicyclist?

The Answer: SAFE DISTANCE

When passing a bicyclist Idaho code requires motorist to drive at a “safe distance.” This means ensuring there is sufficient distance to prevent contact if the bicyclist were to fall down. When passing, consider 3 feet the minimum safe distance to maintain between your vehicle and the bicyclist. (In Boise, 3 ft is the required minimum distance).

This answer is based onĀ Idaho state code 49-632 (1).
